GAWA International Watercolor Online Contest - 2018 Result

GAWA International Watercolor Online Contest - 2018 was the very first event organized by Global Association of Watercolor Artists (GAWA). This contest provided a wonderful opportunity to watercolor artists around the world to showcase their artistic talent on an international level without the restrictions of specific size, theme or style. In all, 226 shortlisted artists from 41 countries participated in this juried event with 523 images of their watercolor paintings. 

Our awards include 24 cash awards of total $4700 USD, watercolor paint sets sponsored by 'Nevskaya Palitra' and 'Mijello Mission Gold Watercolors' and certificates.

Judges' remarks: This painting, 'Colin', by Irena Roman is showcasing artist's strong command over compositional skills along with her technical expertise over the medium. Other paintings submitted by her in this contest were also remarkable in various parameters.

Judges' remarks: Stan Miller has painted this wonderful portrait, 'Nick's Gaze', with so much passion which is evident from the depth in the eyes of the subject. The boldness of the strokes, perfect use of colors, a well-thought balance of light and shadows, and masterful use of watercolor techniques are in all making this painting stand out from the rest.

Judges' remarks: The ripples in the water has been painted in a very dramatic style by Sergiy Lysyy, which is making this painting very eye catching. A wonderful balance of colors in a limited palette, perfect use of light to express the feelings of the moment, and the energy expressed through the bold brush strokes are making this painting unique in many ways.

Judges' remarks: This wonderful painting, ‘The Duet of Light & Shadow’, by You Mee Park speaks aloud of her artistic capabilities and powerful compositional skills. Light is playing a major role in bringing out the beauty of the subject, which is quite remarkable.

'Kingfisher in Green Reeds' by Diana Hermes(Netherlands)

'Best of Wildlife' award 
Diana Hermes (Netherlands) for 'Kingfisher in Green Reeds'

Judges' remarks: Diana Hermes has done justice to the kingfisher as well as its surrounding habitat, which is one of the most important criteria for being a great wildlife painting.
